WHERE WE WORK: We provide pet sitting, dog walking and, overnight pet sitting at clients' homes in Fairhope, Alabama.
BACKGROUND CHECK: Because we are providing services in client's homes and caring for their most beloved furry family members, all pet sitters and dog walkers must undergo a background check including: criminal history, reference check and drug screening.
SCHEDULE: We work when our clients need us. Because of this, we do not have 9-5 jobs. We don't guarantee schedules, we work early mornings and evenings, weekends and holidays. We can't guarantee a set number of ours per week because we make assignments when our clients make reservations.
This job is perfect if you’re looking for supplemental income in a fun, non-office environment. If you are looking for full-time steady employment, this isn’t the right job for you. But if you’re looking for a part-time job and are able to work when clients need you, you may be a good fit.
You must be extremely dependable as our clients depend on us to care for their cherished animal family members. We’re dealing with living, breathing pets and you must be committed to ensuring visits occur no matter what. This is not a job that you can just call out.
We work when our clients need us. Because of this, we do not have 9-5 jobs. We don’t guarantee schedules, we work early mornings and evenings, weekends, and holidays. We can’t guarantee a set number of hours per week because we make assignments when our clients make reservations. Many of the pets we care for don’t do well in strange environments, they may be slow to trust strangers. Therefore we like to assign the same pet sitter to a client. Constant rotation of sitters can be stressful to pets, and the pets we care for form bonds with our sitters. Because of this, we ask our sitters to commit to at least 6 months with us. If you know you’ll be moving, leaving for school, or otherwise not be available within this period, we would kindly ask you not to apply.
We get these questions a lot. Here are our best answers...
Highly desirable:
Not necessarily. However, you will need to have experience dealing with animals.
You must be 18 years of age to work with us.
We care for just about any type of animal. We have experience caring for dogs, cats, fish, horses, goats, chickens, alpacas, snakes, turtles, reptiles, ferrets, gerbils, guinea pigs, and others.
No! Only you are authorized to enter a client’s homes. In addition, some of the pets we care for are not accustomed to being around children or other pets.
We require all of our sitters and walkers to be licensed, bonded and insured. One of the requirements of bonding is that you have a spotless criminal record. Therefore you may not have any misdemeanors or felonies on your record. In addition, you will have unsupervised access to client’s homes, therefore a drug screening is required as a condition of employment.
You are responsible for paying for your background check.
It’s important to understand this is a part-time job. We don’t guarantee a set number of hours each week. There may be some weeks you have no assignments and there will be weeks where up to 20 hours will be available. The schedule is highly variable since we work when our clients need us.
Because we provide services for clients when they are on vacation, our busiest times are weekends and holidays. We try to rotate our sitters on major holidays, but this may not always be possible due to current staffing levels and client demand. If you are not able to work on weekends or holidays, there will be no work to assign you.
Because we work when our clients need us, there is no typical schedule. However, we can provide some basic guidance.
We like to assign clients to sitters who live within a 15 minute drive of their home. This is why you must live within this area. This is a part-time job and pet sitters and dog walkers would not find it cost-effective to drive long distances to client homes.
PET SITTERS: The typical client goes out of town anywhere from 2 to 7 days at a time, but could be up to 2 weeks at a time. Most clients opt for 2 visits in their home per day, but some choose 3 or even 4.
It’s not mandatory that you be available to work all shifts, as we attempt to assign clients to sitters whose schedules are compatible with theirs. However, the more availability you have, the greater the likelihood of being assigned visits as clients schedule them.
Two visits per day: You’ll do a morning visit between 6:30 am and 8:00 am and an evening visit between 6:30 pm and 8:00 pm. The visits would be scheduled 12 hours apart.
Three visits per day: Visits are spaced about 6 hours apart, so you’ll do a morning visit between 6:30 am – 8:00 am, a midday visit from 12:30 pm – 2:00 pm and an evening visit from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm.
DOG WALKERS: Clients who use this service generally work long hours during the week and are looking for someone to provide their pup with a potty break and a walk. Walk times are 20 minutes. Most walks occur between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm.
Because we work when our clients need us, this means our busiest times are weekends, summers, holidays including the weeks before and after major holidays so you must have availability during these times.
You must be comfortable walking dogs in all types of weather including rain, winter cold and summer heat. Pet sitters generally provide walks from 15-30 minutes and our dog walkers will walk dogs 20 minutes at a time.
We work in client homes, so conditions will vary.
We do administer medications to pets. Whether it’s liquid medications, pills, injections, subcutaneous fluids or inhalers, we do it all. We match our sitters to clients based on experience level. We also train you to administer these medications.
We utilize an industry-leading mobile app to check in and out of all of our visits. This is mandatory for all pet sitters and dog walkers. We send reports and photos at the end of each visit and we verify visit lengths and dog walking routes with our phones GPS location tracking. GPS tracking must be enabled at all times while providing service.
Clients make reservations through our mobile app. Our office will make assignments based on sitter availability and personality fit. Clients communicate with our sitters and walker through the mobile app and will not be contacting you on your personal phone. Prompt replies to our clients are expected and rarely does communication take place outside of scheduled visit times. Most replies take just a few seconds, so while it’s a very important part of the job, it takes very little time.
